Ed Warner's Cage / Rookie Rock Radio

Split 7"

Tracklist:
1. Urbi & Orbi (EWC)
2. Le Déclin (EWC)
3. Vol d'éternité (RRR)
4. Papillon de Chair (RRR)

Download

Great split by two of France's more unknown screamo bands.
Ed Warner's Cage bring some killer tracks full of samples, synth, dissonance and chaos while Rookie Rock Radio play some more melodic stuff with beautiful spoken words parts (unfortunately though they destroy the beauty by sampling like 3 seconds of "I love rock'n'roll" at the end of the last track).

Chiaroscuro

The Desert

Tracklist:
1. The Desert (Scenes I-V)

Download

Sorry Devar-toi, you're no longer the band that sounds the most like a total rip-off of Circle Takes the Square (not that there's anything wrong with that, this is great stuff).

Arroyo

Inviduum & Massen

Tracklist:
1. Paranorm
2. Kanaan

Download

Wow. Just wow. This is some really epic post-rock skramz. 2 tracks that together reaches over half an hour in length. It starts out with a 7 minute long promotional speech for 1972 presidential candidate George McGovern, until the singer bursts out in some heavy screaming comparable to Le Pré Où Je Suis Mort, but in german instead of french. All accompanied by awesome post-rock instrumentation with a lot of synth.

Querencia

The Wake

Tracklist:
1. The World's Smallest Violin
2. Summer In Hell
3. Gray's Anatomy
4. Segue
5. Heavy With Child
6. My Living Will

Download

Sorry for the inactivity lately, I promise I'll try to update more often from now on.
This is yet another re-upload of an old favourite. Querencia is a way too unknown band that was once going to release this shit through Escucha Records (Suis La Lune, Suffocate For Fuck Sake etc) but for some reason didn't. Which is sad, because this is one of the most awesome screamo bands to ever exist. They had both a cello player and a pianist, need I say more?

(due to an interruption while downloading this from Soulseek the last 20 seconds or so of the song "Heavy With Child" are missing. If someone would happen to have the song in its entirety, please let me know.)

Robots Don't Cry

2004 Tour CD-R

Tracklist:
1. Meehan: Aloha, Fatass
2. Don't Fuck With The Magical Lamborghini Circus
3. Us (Team Awesome) vs. the Spanish Armada

Download

Apparently there's a pretty famous Russian grunge band also named Robots Don't Cry, but this is a pretty obscure screamo band from Nebraska, that didn't leave more traces of their existence than a geocities site that doesn't seem to have been updated for years. They released two tour CDs with less than 100 copies each, and a split 7" with the equally obscure band Shadows and the Silence (who I've only heard one song from, on their split 7" with Choke Their Rivers With Our Dead, that got to me yesterday after almost a month of waiting. If anyone would have any digital copies of their songs I'd be more than happy).
I only have the songs from their 2004 tour cd though. I don't even know how the hell I got them. But anyway they're great, there's lots of instrumental parts with awesome guitar works and some piano/synth. I especially love the second song.

Allegory Of The Cave

Tracklist:
1. Track 01
2. Track 02
3. Track 03
4. Track 04
5. Track 05
6. Track 06
7. Track 07
8. Track 08

Split with Spectres

Tracklist:
Allegory Of The Cave:
1. The Sentimental Value Of A Stuffed Teddy Bear
2. Brainstorm Crushed The Science Fair
Spectres:
3. Mike Cries At Movies
4. Slowly Declining

(the bands' songs have been confused with each other and are therefore tagged wrong, don't blame me for this)

Most of the old download links on this blog have expired, so I thought I'd start re-posting some of them.
I'll start with one of my all time favorite bands, Allegory Of The Cave. I stumbled across their song The Flood We Started, The Flood We Drowned In (or simply known as demo track 03) about 3 years ago, and was instantly in love. AOTC was a two-piece from Orlando, Florida who made noisy screamo with the worst recording quality ever, but were yet softly melodic at times, everything in a very unique and totally awesome way.
I don't know much about the other band on the split, Spectres, other than that they also had a track on a 4 way split tape limited to 100 copies with the bands The Short Blooming, Vlado Petrik and Zarathustra Has Been Killed In The 70's, that I happen to have in my collection alongside the Allegory Of The Cave/Spectres split 7", which is unfortunately out of print, but if it'll ever show up on eBay or something, take the chance to buy it because this is in my opinion one of the best screamo records ever made. Buy the tape too, it has amazing artworks of a whale in a tree.

Tracklist:
1. Pull My Teeth
2. Paperboy
3. Tempting The Archer

Agna Moraine's Autobiography & Rentamerica (+Bombs Lullabye)

Split 7"

Tracklist:
1. Choking In The Rain (Agna)
2. Uncharted Waters (Agna)
3. Harvest Of Breath (Agna)
4. A Child Dies (Rentamerica)
5. Border Control (Rentamerica)
6. 19 Years (Rentamerica)

Download

I finally got my hands on a copy of Agna Moraine's Autobiography's self-titled 7" some days ago. In the same turn, I realised I had another record by them on my computer, a split with a band called Rentamerica. The Agna Moraine guys continue their weird, unique style of emo, while Rentamerica deliver some spastic tracks that totally rips off Indian Summer by having old jazz songs inbetween the songs. But it doesn't matter, because it's awesome. I wish I could get a copy of this too.

Oh, btw, some of the guys from Agna Moraine's Autobiography also played in a band called Bombs Lullabye. They have a song where they're using beatbox, but except from that they're crap. But my friend wanted me to upload it so here it is anyway.

I don't know what the actual intention of the band name was, but in Swedish it means scrotum.
This is pre-I Hate Myself stuff.

2. Oh yeah? Well I did coke twice in one night
3. Building castles in the sky
4. Time
5. Intermission
6. White toast

Split w/ Ezra Joyce and Understaffed Orchestra

Tracklist:
1. An outside source might save your life (Ezra Joyce)
2. Empire (Ezra Joyce)
3. Dresden (Ezra Joyce)
4. Attempts (TSSUH)
5. Failures (TSSUH)
6. Space (TSSUH)

10. I go to college... so I listen to indie music (Understaffed Orchestra)
11. Therapy Binge (Understaffed Orchestra)

Download

Do two guys playing in their underwear even need any introduction? You've just got to love it. I ordered their "Drop Acid, not Bombs" tape yesterday. I think that's their best stuff, the split is pretty shitty. They played pretty short and intense screamo songs, like Love Like... Electrocution or something, but more melodic.

Quest For Quintana Roo

Things To Remember

Tracklist:
1. Apnea
2. They Spoke In Greek
3. Things To Forget

S/T CD

Tracklist:
1. Blowing Up Satellites
2. Soap Box
3. You Make It Easy
4. That's How We Talked In The 70's
5. Face Of Disaster
6. Statement To The Statesmen

Split w/ Uphill Battle

Tracklist:
1. Et Cetera
2. One Two
3. Juneau, Alaska
4. Writing In The Dark (Uphill Battle)

Download

Along with two awesome splits (Die, Emperor! Die!/Burned Out Bright and Toru Okada/Olive Tree) I ordered the Things To Remember 7" today. None of you will probably ever get such a chance. Quest For Quintana Roo released a shitload of stuff during their existence between 1999 and 2002, but just a fraction of it has survived till this day. That's pretty sad, because they played some really powerful skramz. Things To Remember is their top stuff, I'd say.

Oh, and for those who didn't know, their name is taken from one of the most well designed video games ever:

We Killed John Lennon

BRB, Basement

Tracklist:
1. Untitled #1
2. Untitled #2
3. Untitled #3
4. ...In The World
5. Untitled #4

Download

So, I guess I'll also upload this. We Killed John Lennon was probably the most short lived screamo band ever, they existed for one exclusive and totally improvised basement gig and demo recording last friday night. They had one guitar without a pick, a set of drums with some broken sticks, and a bunch of dudes screaming at random without any microphones, and recorded it all with some mobile phones and a digital camera. I myself was third vocalist or something in ...In The World and some other songs that didn't get on this demo (I'm the one sounding like a little girl getting assraped). All the other tracks are by Daniel (vocals), Jesper (drums), Filip (guitar) and Martin (vocals). I had so fucking fun with you that night. Thank you all.

Tracklist:
1. This Is The Part Where You Burn
2. Flies Of The Marketplace
3. It Takes A Ghost Years To Get Across The Room
4. It's Nothing Business, Strictly Personal
5. The Brown

Download

I've never been a big fan of emo-violence, but sweet Jesus these guys are awesome! It may be the softer parts in Flies Of The Marketplace that does it, but still. I love it.

Quantice Never Crashed

Self-titled CD

Tracklist:
1. The Physical Setting Of A Dream
2. Williams Shatner's Powergun
3. Paper Airplanes
4. Shaolin Casanova
5. Any Port In The Storm
6. Lighthouses
7. Running man
8. Pins And Needles
9. Good To The Last Drop
10. Two Bullets And A Gun

Download

So, guess what? Today I'm turning fucking 18! And I thought I'd celebrate that by giving you a classic screamo album that I got from my mum for my 16th birthday, two years ago.
Quantice Never Crashed were fucking intense. I also remember they would refuse to ever play any show with an age limit. That's something that every band with some self respect left should do.

мища

Pre-demo

Tracklist:
1. Landlocked part1
2. Landlocked part2
3. What A Fucking Joke

Download

No, I don't really know why their name is written in Cyrillic letters even though the band's not Russian, but anyhow it's pronounced "Mischa", like in Mischa Barton.
They don't even wanna call this recording a demo, it's just some songs they recorded in a basement with one microphone. But you can't even really hear any extraordinarily bad recording quality (not that there's anything wrong with that in this kind of music). The songs don't even reach 8 minutes all together, but it's like an orgasm; short but pleasureful.

High Five, Atom Bomb

The Stars, An Escape

Tracklist:
1. They Are Dove's Eyes
2. Piteraq
3. I Hope We Are Not Witnesses To Something Unspeakable
4. Amy Blue
5. ...Say Goodbye To The Stars
6. It's Universal

Download

I can't believe I hadn't even heard about this band until yesterday.
These guys are epic and mostly instrumental in a really soft and melodic manner, and in the parts where there's vocals, it sometimes sounds like it's Aaron Weiss (of mewithoutYou, he's one of my favourite singers ever), especially when the singer starts screaming "Oh God! Oh God!" in the second track, "Piteraq".
They also have really wonderful lyrics, some of my favourites are from the song "Amy Blue":

Oh, what I'd give for my old awkward set of limbs
Oh, what I'd fuck to be in your arms again
And you know you were my favourite movie
And even though I fucking hate the end
I still rewind you walking away
And watch it over and over again

2. Always Stay At The Cemetary
3. Rock You Like A Hurricane
4. Won't You Be My Valentine Mike Dawson Even Though You're A Bigoted Child Molester

Download

I don't really know what to say. I don't really know if I even have to say anything. I mean, just look at the name of the band and the name of the recording. Live recordings from house shows by bands with ridiculously long names couldn't possibly be more true skramz, or anything else than awesome.

Italian screamo band. Or something. A while into their self-titled record you kind of just dream away and find yourself listening to some wonderful post-rock, then realising it's still Magdalene. Fucking sweet. Also, Italian is a damn fine language to sing in.

Ezra Joyce/Pianos Become The Teeth

Split

Tracklist:
1. Holmes and Chicago (Ezra Joyce)
2. The Depletion of Suns (Ezra Joyce)
3. Creatures of Habit (PBTT)

Download

Pianos Become The Teeth are already back after the release of their debut full-length CD Saltwater less than a year ago, and this time they bring their friends in Ezra Joyce. This is in no way as epic as Saltwater, but a record worth buying once it's out on vinyl? Absofuckinglutely.
Saltwater should be released on vinyl too btw, i hate CDs. But I'll probably buy it anyway, some day.

Zainichi!

Forward, we march together

Tracklist:
1. We Shaped Air Castles
2. Requited
3. Grasp Upon Thorns

Download (new download link, now containing the whole recording)

Zainichi! is a Singaporean band with, this far, only 19 last.fm listeners. This is so underground that I wasn't even able to get my hands on their whole record, but two songs out of three is fair enough, I guess. Especially since they're both very fine songs. They've got all those contrasts that make a screamo song enjoyable, they're raw yet post-rockishly melodic, and mix really heartfelt screams with spoken words. It's kind of like Tzadikim Nistarim, and that's a really positive statement since their 7" has been going warm on my record player ever since it arrived in my mailbox a while ago (until I somehow managed to get the fucking machine to fuck up and just make weird noises every time i turn it on).

These songs are however from an OOP record named "Forward, we march together". Utarid:tapes made a tape re-release of it recently though, and I am sure as hell gonna get a copy of it as soon as it's available through Denovali or Bis Aufs Messer (which it will hopefully be).

EDIT: Apparently it got available through Bis Aufs Messer already the day before I made this post. Oh well, I'll order it some day.

EDIT2 (PLEASE READ): Wall, the singer of the band, wrote to me and thanked me for spreading the love for them. Well, it's really nice for me to hear both from downloaders and the bands I'm posting that my work on this blog is appreciated. So again, thank you Wall and the rest of Zainichi! for being so totally awesome, loving and generous and not like those greedy bastards who's suing zillions out of The Pirate Bay. I also took the opportunity to mail him and ask for the last song of the recording, which he of course willingly sent me. So now the upload is complete, and the newly added song is just as sweet as the other ones. So download it, love it, and spread it to everyone you know, and everyone you don't know. Because the world needs bands like Zainichi!, who really care for the music and nothing but the music. If there was a need to tell it to any of my blog followers, which I doubt, but still, I would also like everyone to boycott any music put out by: Sony BMG, Universal Music, Playground Music, Bonnier Amigo Music Group, EMI and Warner Music, who don't care a shit about getting their music heard, just making a fortune out of it and suing the shit out of innocent people. Thank you.

'Spread the love, save our community.'
Much love and passion,
Wall.

(Oh, and one last thing. My dad just walked into my room and with his magical daddy fingers fixed my cassette deck. And in a month I'm turning 18 so then I'll be able to get my own PayPal account, buy Zainichi!'s tape, finally with my own money, and play it on my tape player. You should do the same. Cause despite my total support for free file sharing, I see supporting the bands you love by actually buying their stuff as a matter of course.)

Followed By 37 Seconds Of Happiness

Self-titled 7"

Tracklist:
1. End of Times
2. Death of Oceans
3. Monument
4. Close Like Us

Download

From what I've heard, these guys only rehearsed two or three times before recording this wonderful EP. That's undescribably tight-as-fuck having in mind how beautifully melodic they've managed to make every song. It's a shame they broke up, if rehearsing sessions countable on half a hand could produce such a perfect record, just imagine what we could have been hearing from them in the future if they kept going.
I was lucky enough to be at their last show ever, with GO! With Fourteen O, Meleeh and Grizzly Twister at Kafé 44 in Stockholm in september -07 (except from FB37SOH I only had the time to see G!WFO, who were also fucking amazing, though) and it was the awesomest show I've ever been to. I was just amazed and went home with a t-shirt and a limited (like in probably less than 10 copies) CD version of this, and eventually bought it on vinyl when it was out. You should definitely do the same, this is a must-buy.

Tzadikim Nistarim

One sided 7"

Tracklist:
1. Untitled

Download

This is the kind of record that I just had to buy two days after hearing it for the first time (ok, it just so happened to be that I was planning to buy some stuff from Big Bear Records and found this in the distro list and just had to check it out, but still).
I was just stunned when I heard this for the first time. This band, whose Last.fm fans counts to none more than 12, plays some of the most sincere screamo I have heard in ages. It's that perfect blend of chaos and beauty that only very few bands manage to create. And their lyrics sheet is among the most profound ones I've ever read, a fine reminder of that aside from the mainstream music industry with its massproduction of meaningless music with meaningless lyrics, there's still some people reasoning and making music with their hearts and souls rather than their greed for money and fame.

Zarathustra Has Been Killed in the 70's/Vlado Petrik

Split

Tracklist:
1. Seiya vs. Cassius (ZHBKIT70s)
2. Sonrisas Robadas Por Espectros Danzantes (ZHBKIT70s)
3. Commiseracion Polar (ZHBKIT70s)
4. Intro (Vlado Petrik)
5. Simulacro Al Descontento (Vlado Petrik)
6. Trinidad (Vlado Petrik)

Download

At times, this is mostly noise, Zarathustra probably causing most of it, but inbetween, both bands (hailing from, respectively, Mexico and Chile) present some pretty sweet tunes.
These tracks also appear on a 4 way split tape along with The Short Blooming and Spectres, which I unfortunately don't have downloads for. But since The Short Blooming's contribution to the tape (Von Fingerabdrücken, Schneeflocken Und So... and Wishful Thinking) are already on the Zu Wahr Um Schön Zu Sein album that I've posted, and the track from Spectres (Quick Drop and a Sudden Stop) aren't their best effort anyway (those are on the Allegory of the Cave split that I posted back in October) it doesn't really matter. It's available through various distros though, you should totally buy it, I did. The cover has an awesome painting of a whale in a three by artist Matt Gauck.

The Short Blooming

Zu Wahr Um Schön Zu Sein

Tracklist:
1. Abendkasse
2. Von Fingerabdrücken, Schneeflocken Und So...
3. The Short Blooming
4. Wishful Thinking
5. Kostenfrage
6. Next One, Please!
7. Repetition Kills Peculiarity
8. Gefangen

Download

German band making emo-violence with some insanely cool vocals. That guy surely can scream.
Nowadays they're making quite more experimenting music under the name Thoughts Paint The Sky. I've got one of their CD's, maybe I'll care to upload it some day.
